Free Ink! Benefit, advertising, or what?

Posted July 10th, 2016 by LuAnn Bean & filed under Accounting Information Systems, Accounting Principles, Advanced Accounting, All Articles, Auditing, Cost Accounting, Financial Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis, Intermediate Accounting, Managerial Accounting.

According to chief executive of “& pizza,” Michael Lastoria, he now foots the bill for any worker — and the occasional customer — who wants to get inked with the company’s logo. Mr. Lastoria says that paying for tattoos is just another way of showing employees that he welcomes their ideas.

Questions:
1. What does the & mean?
2. What did Michael Lastoria do before he got into the pizza business?
3. What do you think? Is it an employee benefit, advertising, or something else? Discuss.
4. Would you get an ampersand tattoo? Why or why not?
5. Since the company is now paying for the tattoos, how would you classify this expense?
