According to the New York Times, a barista class program started in 2017 at the island’s women’s facility was such a hit that the New York City Department of Correction (Rikers Island) expanded it to include 18-to-24-year-olds and convicted adult men.
Questions:
- How long is the class?
- What is the purpose of the class?
- Each year in America, how many people are released from jail and how many are released from state or federal prisons?
- Do you think this will help prevent hiring discrimination? Why or why not?
