Rural wireless service threatened

According to the New York Times, many small U.S. wireless carriers depend on inexpensive equipment from the Chinese company, Huawei, but must soon rethink expansion plans and other replacements of existing gear.

  1. Why did President Trump ban Huawei’s sale of equipment in the U.S.?
  2. How extensively is Huawei’s equipment used across the globe?
  3. Do you think that this was a wise executive order? Discuss.
  4. Why don’t the smaller carriers use the same equipment as the large carriers like Verizon?
